Primarily based about a disused former church, Corrie Property sensitively integrates modern design and style with the current structure for a balanced blend of old and new.

Set on the shores of Loch Torridon in the Scottish Highlands, the architectural property stands out against the rugged mountains and enjoys amazing views of the blue-grey water.

Rural Style Architects was briefed to use and renovate the church creating as the core of the project, which formed the foundation of the principal living spaces. It presents double-height ceilings that let in the wild landscape, even though creating an airy sense of space and light. The facade’s stonework was also reduce open to permit views from the living area.

A modern day extension to the east reflects the kind of the church, but attributes dark zinc cladding to differentiate from the original historical stonework – an aesthetic the architect describes as a “shadow church”. This new section of the property measures downhill on the sloping web-site and connects to one particular of the home’s standout attributes – a semi-basement indoor pool.

Constructed in a grotto of black stonework and complete-height glazing, the pool reflects light and has an infinity finish to give the illusion of melting into the loch and mountains. This is a breathtaking space that embodies modernity even though linking with the organic setting.
